Re: Anyone know where this wire goes?

Marnix, once again thanks and this is really valuable advice.

When you say that you had the cross member axle that holds it in the steering column break - was this the spring pin that actually broke? I'm wondering if this same spring pin on mine has also broken (which is a pain to get to as it probably means taking the brake fluid reservoir out of the way to get access to it, now that the engines back in).

It wasn't the spring pin, but the "axle" part of the cross-member that fits in the steering column that broke, at the bore where the spring pin goes through. The hole is quite large compared to the diameter of that axle part, and there is not much material to the sides of the hole, making it a weak spot. In addition, there is maybe material fatigue or wear involved (vibration, shocks, etc)

I'm thinking that the spring pin doesn't even go through the axle on mine - as I probably shouldn't be able to see the hole from this angle. No wonder it's got the wave effect if this isn't doing its job.

You may be in luck, and maybe somebody did the pin without pushing back the crosspiece to align the hole of the axle with the pin? In the picture, it doesn't look like the axle is broken at the hole.
