Starter Motor Replacement - Series 1 Fulvia Sport

An enthusiastic truck driver burned out the starter motor in my new Fulvia Sport in the course of delivering it. I took the motor to the local auto electric shop (well versed in older European cars) and they advise that the armature needs to be rewound, with the only folks capable of doing so located in Eastern Canada and offering a timeline of 'weeks'. Is anyone aware of an easily sourced replacement starter motor that would work as an alternative to this painful process? I see Adan has rebuilt Bosch units but given the Canadian dollar's worthless nature, I was hoping to escape for less than US$480!

    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Not cheap either but I highly recommend these modern high torque starters.

Thank you for the reply. I did come across this starter when I was poking around the web and seems like a good choice. Can you recommend a North American supplier - most seem to be out of the UK?

    Thanks again.

    Unfortunately not.
My experience with these starters is on Alfas and Fiats where NA suppliers carry them.

Adan at Lalancia.com has that stuff. He is located in CA.

Re: Starter Motor Replacement - Series 1 Fulvia Sport

It turned out to be much quicker and no more expensive to order one of the WOS Performance starters (compared to sourcing replacement parts and having the original starter rebuilt) so that is what I've done. I will give a report on the new unit when it arrives.

Thanks to everyone for the input.

I ordered it from these fellows:

    CCW-Tools, (a division of Classic-Car-World Ltd)
    32 Washingborough Road
    Heighington
    Lincoln
    LN4 1RE
    Tel: 01522 888178
    Fax 0870 705 9115
    e-mail: enquiries@ccw-tools.com
    URL: www.ccw-tools.com

They were very responsive to questions and their shipping rates to Canada were the lowest of the online retailers listed on the WOS Performance website (WOS only sells to the trade, not the mass unwashed like me). I'm not sure why the shipping rates are so variable given the starters are drop shipped directly from WOS. The website for the one US retailer listed by WOS was impenetrable.
