I have two Fulvias, one a 65 2C Berlina (3 owners/36000 k) and a `71 1.3S ser 2 Coupe (1 owner before us) and both have their towers painted black. Both cars are mechanically untouched so I too believe Lancia from the factory painted these black.

Thank you all for contributing With information regarding aluminium towers beeing painted or not. So far information is strongly supporting that series 1 cars have painted Towers.

Does anyone in this forum have series 1 cars that originally have unpainted aluminium Towers, please make a comment.

    Cheers

    Tor

My Coupe 1968 has painted towers (but the old original paint has been stripped a while ago and the towers repainted) and my 2C 1964 (that has almost not been tampered with since new) has painted towers too. The 2C paint is definitely factory original.

Guess they painted them to resist corrosion?

My 2c was restored 1997_1999 after sitting for 21 years, with only 27.000 miles on the clock and one previous owner.
All my photos taken at the time show painted towers.

    Re: Fulvia 1,3 HF

I think that the issue of whether the towers were painted or not is a non issue. They were painted but poorly in that they were merely blown over with black paint with no prep or etch primer. My 2C for example which is low miles and untouched mechanically had the black towers until I decided to clean the engine (which was dusty not oily) with the pressure nozzle on the hose and as a consequence blew off a fair bit of the paint on the towers. The same with our coupe. The real problem however despite the fact it is not now original is that it looks so dam good, the high quality engineering look which is one of the reasons I became interested in Lancias in the first place. It is extremely pleasing to the eye which is the reason, I`m sure most of us either removed the remaining paint, or left them unpainted to have alloy towers.
I think they painted the alloy for protection bearing in mind those of you that have colder winters do put salt down on the roads .
