    Fulvia Cylinder Head Identification

    Hi all,

I have just taken possession of my Fulvia - woohoo!

Just a newbie question from the uninitiated, where is the cylinder head number stamp and/or are there any identifying markings that easily differentiate the different engines/heads similar to what Alfa stamped on the Nord engine heads?

The cylinder head number is on the front side of the cylinder head. The block number, which is unique to each different type of motor, is on the rear side of the block, just above the starter. The use a flash light and the mirror make viewing it easier.

    Re: Fulvia Cylinder Head Identification

Don't rely on the head number to identify what type of engine is in. The same head casting was used for a number of different engines (made the same mistake when I was more a newbie). Look at the cylinder block number, as stated, at the carburetor side of the engine block, near the rear of the engine, somewhere partially hidden by the carburetors, starter motor, dynamo-alternator.

Be aware that even there, some blocks have been made from the same casting: for example, the 202 engine and the 302 have the same cast, one bored at 75mm, the other at 77mm.

With "engine block" I was meaning "cylinder block" to be clear

    Re: Fulvia Cylinder Head Identification

So I finally had a chance to get my hands dirty on the beast today.....

Engine block is an 818.303 and the cylinder head is an 818.140 - 2239540

From my research these numbers match a 1.3S Coupe, as expected. Have I got that right?

    Cheers

    The plot thickens!

We went to replace the carb rubber mounts today to find that the 1300 mount doesn't fit (fouls the throttle butterfly) and the existing mounts look like the ones for a 1600 on the Bielstein website (tapered from the carb to the block)! What is the difference between the 1300 carbs and the 1600 carbs in the Solex variety? Are they the same or different?

i suspect I may have 1600 carbs on this 1300 motor

They're different: the 1300 carbs are Solex 35 PHH ; the 1600 are Solex 42 DDHF
