Angry Installation of a new Starter Motor * some hints?

    Dear Lancisti-Friends,

sorry for this - maybe silly - question.
My Starter Motor is not workling anymore. Therefore I was able to obtain a alternative motor starter (Starter motor including the magentic switch).
I thought it is easy to exchange the entire unit, now I face access problems.

Now, the Access to one of the two 13mm screws in order to exchange the Starter Motor is very difficult. While the first (lower) screw is easy accessible, no wrench or socket wrench allows access to the second screw (even with extenders, hinged extenders for the wrench the motor exhaust pipes and engine housing does not allow to access the screw... do I have to dismount the entire engine in order to accees/exchange to the starter motor?). Any hints how to solve this?

Or should I exchange the magnetic swicth in the first step? Maybe only the switch is faulty (typical klicking-sound).

    Thomas, Germany

You did not state what model Lancia you have. Please re-post.

David, if you'll notice, Thomas posted in the Appia Forum, so he doesn't really need to re-post, unless he's speaking about some model other than an Appia. I can't personally help with an Appia, but I'm sure there are some forum members who can.

Found a solution by removing the entire exhaust air pipes plus dynamo and using some flexibel screw wrench combinations!

I have the same problem. I can not see the second bolt you reference at all, I can see a 13mm bolt at the bottom of the starter but not the second. I believe my issue is the solenoid as it sometimes the starter will spin if I tap the solenoid. Someone had placed a second solenoid mounted on the frame, but I can not see how the thought that would work. I think I can remove just the solenoid but I am not sure that is going to help. Does anyone know if you can remove just the solenoid? Also when out, can they be serviced? Any help would be appreciated.

If even you could remove just the solenoid it may not be the answer. Remove the starter and have it examined for bad brushes and a bad solenoid to do less would not be productive. The top bolt is hard to see hard to remove but it can be done using a combination of wrenches. Barry

Thanks for the info. Does anyone have any pictures, so I might see where the upper bolt is located?
