    Ace Cafe, Wembley

A bit off subject but some of you mentioned a 1st Tuesday meeting at a Hertfordshire pub. I just spoke to my friend with the silver Italia who lives in that area and he said there is a big get-together at the Ace Cafe near Wembley on the outer ring on the same day monthly. Apparently it has been tranformed from a biker thing to interesting cars that begin showing up around 4PM. Just thought I would pass it on.

I kinda suspect there isn't a single classic car fan in the London area who doesn't know about the Ace Cafe get-togethers. They look like great evenings from the photos I've seen.

Hell I just found out about White Castle cruise nite. Maybe it's because we don't have any White Castles here.....or is that like --"Just heard a great group on the radio. They sound fantastic. I think their called the Beatles or something!"

I was speaking to Tony at "Classics on the Common" yesterday, probably the biggest afternoon/evening event anywhere, with over a 1000 cars, motorbikes, scooters, commercial Vehicles, Hot rods, you name it it's there, starts now at 3pm and goes on until dark or later depending on weather and when people have had enough.
Lancia were represented by a Delta HF, 2 integrales, 3 Fulvia's, a 200 Coupe, a lovely ex Australian Lambda, a genuine Stratos as well as a lovely Hawk Alitalia Replica, Highlight for me was The Appia Consortium's Appia Furgoncino van ( and guess who forgot to take a photo of it!) and last but not least Jonathan's lovely race prepared Fulvia.
Real oddball which in a strange sort of way I liked was a Mitsuoka Viewt, a what?
It looked like a "Honey I shrunk the Jaguar" and looked like a 3.8 jag had been through the washer and had shrunk, it's based on a Nissan Micra 1.3 with air con and automatic transmission.

Wow, looks great. Over here, in my part of the world, Oris Watch Company is sponsoring a Classic Car Drive from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to Bangkok, Thailand at the end of September. Planning and thinking at the moment.

It's unfair! Per capita you guys win the prize for "most-cars-cherished-regardless-of-make-and-age" ..With the size of your country you should be going somewhere every weekend to ploy among the stuff and even on the middle of the week! Thanks for dropping by to see Tony. He's my best mate, for sure! Too bad we can't just drive over and meet. Rick

Cetainly is a following over here of Classic cars and there are many events all over the Country, but petrol is now so expensive over here it's really restricting how many you can afford to go to, and the traffic congestion doesn't help. even the many unloved and totally impractical ones have a good following, I don't know if you know the Lomax sporting the "Q" number plate, but's it's a 3 wheeler (and a 4 wheeler) based on the Citroen 2cv family mechanicals, they go very well for the 602cc engine due to getting shot of all that body weight, obviously the looks are based on Morgan 3 wheelers and I'm a fan of them, as standard they keep the 2cv's gear lever sticking straight out of the dash that rotates and pushes & pulls to change gear, really effective and quick once you get the hang of it, also for information, the Q plate means that it's a vehicle built with parts from another vehicle without using the body, so it can't keep the original registration number, which might make it seem to be an older vehicle than it is.

Hoping Tony makes it to our tuesday meeting next week.

    Re: Ace Cafe, Wembley

It was a great night in Harpenden and nice to meet up with Brian, Al and Martin. Its true, we are a completely car crazy nation - to get over 10,000 people out midweek and 1200 cars in a small town in Hertfordshire is pretty incredible.

There is something on every weekend at the moment, Silverstone Classic, Classics on the Common, Shelsley Walsh and if Hot Rods are your thing, this looks fun:

Then there is Autoitalia at Gaydon soon and then the Goodwood revival - so much to do, too few pink slips from the missus!
