RHD VIN on LHD Fulvia Zagato

Have just been shown a LHD Fulvia Sport S2, which is very original but has VIN 818 651*002239 (on both VIN plate and body stamping) which should refer to a RHD car. By chance, we have another Zagato in the workshop, which is LHD and Series 1.5, and comparing the two, we can see no evidence of modifications.

Can anyone comment? Seems highly improbable that anyone would convert...

Re: RHD VIN on LHD Fulvia Zagato

Some years ago we came across a similar problem, but I don't think it was a Zagato.
It also had no signs of being modified and we came to the conclusion that someone probably picked up the wrong stamp, in those days this was usually carried out using individual stamps, and embossed in the metal with a big whack of a hammer
But highly unlikely the vin plate was done in the same manner as they used to be done on a machine, so perhaps the error was on the original printed build sheet , and was an input error
As it matched what was on the log book I think it was ignored!

    Thanks, Brian

Useful feedback. Perhaps in this case a Lancia Classiche certificate would be worthwhile ? Unless it confirmed/compounded the seeming error?

This is slightly off thread but it was mentioned that the body is stamped, where would that be? (for a coupe)

In the drain channel in front of the windscreen, on RHD it's on Drivers side, you may not be able to see it if car has been repainted as the paint often fills it in, you should be able to feel it on the underside, and it's supposedly possible to use plasticine to get an impression, but I've never tried it!
Not sure if it's still on the same side for LHD.

It is the same place for LHD. Rear bonnet channel on left (looking from front of car)

I can't see it, is it on the Horizontal or Vertical face of the channel and is it close to the right hand edge?

It's horizontal in the bottom of the channel, if I remember correctly slightly to the right of the drivers A pillar on RHD Fulvia,, when looking towards the windscreen from the front of the car.
