    Diagnosing fuel gauge/sending unit issues

Fuel gauge has been below E since I’ve had my S2. Trying to diagnose the problem, I took the sending unit out and it moved freely, but the Ohm readings are all over the map. Every time I put my multimeter on it, I get a flash reading then nothing until I take the leads off and put them on again, and then I get a different reading! Different every time, even though the float arm hasn’t moved. I don’t want to move on to the gauge until I figure this out.

Thoughts on why I don’t get a consistent reading? Should I just buy a new sending unit?

    Thanks

i'd try grounding the sender wire and see if the gauge reads at full scale. that will qualify the gauge and wiring. and maybe try a different ohm scale on your meter and see if there's a different result. you can also open the sender housing and read at different points on the resistor to see if there's a break somewhere.
