    Re: clunking conundrum

I'll get some more miles in the car and then make an assessment. I have a spare set if shafts and CV joints, so will replace if it continues

    Re: clunking conundrum

Well, now that I have assessed the car for a while (its been going well!), there is still a fair bit of clunking, and hence I think I need to replace inner/outer with the spares I have. Now these might not be any better, but worth trying before buying new.

I have read the manual and I am not sure I understand it. I have slid the rubber boot up away from the outer joint and seen the beginnings of the tapered spline and there is a 2-3mm band of metal around the spline. I don't necessarily want to remove the spline from the outer CV joint obviously since I can swap the whole shaft and joint/s over. The manual says use 'fixture 8052014' which I guess is the hub lock nut tool, and therefore I presume that the whole drive shaft can be removed via removal of the hub lock nuts?

Does anyone know of where there is a description of this job on the forum or elsewhere?

Any advice on this would be very welcome

I am not entirely sure anymore, but I seem to recall Lancia makes you remove the whole wheel hub? Sounds like drastic to me. But it may be that you got to lift the gearbox + engine up to get the CV things out.

I can look the tool up if you want, got tools catalog.

    Re: clunking conundrum

Well the spares I am dismantling are already out (it was a complete engine gearbox subframe etc), so thats not an issue for that stage of the job.

I think I have read in the forum that you should be able to take the shafts/joints out whilst the engine etc is in the car. But I really don't know

You can swap drive shafts by undoing hub nut and flange bolts doh

    'doh'?

Pretty certain that fixture 8052014 is the hub tool, but it would be useful to confirm

Thanks. I will keep you posted

Strange. The number 8052014 doesn't figure in my tools catalog. I tried figuring out the publication date, maybe it is a later tool than the publication date that doesn't show that number yet. But no publication date S2/3 tool?

My manual, bought from LMC many years ago, has two versions throughout

    Re: clunking conundrum

I have not doubt about the correctness of the part number. It only doesn't figure in my TOOLS catalog. It may be that the catalog is from before S2/3 Fulvias, I don't know, and some of the few specific S2/3 tools may not figure in them. Unfortunately, there is no publishing date provided in the tools catalog, so I can't be sure.

Maybe the description of the action to take will clarify (as it probably already did). Or somebody else (Tim?) can clarify.
