Re: rallye 1.3s brake pedal go to the ground

The M/c shown is from the S2 concise repair manual, but even this is not exactfor some s2 mastercylinders. If you are changing seals I recommend you carefully dismantle the 2 "valve" peices held by circlips. These can gum up giving problems of m/c operation. Also the central seal between 4 and 2 can be an O ring. The lips of 4&2 must piont to the big nut end on the M/c. Check for scoring of the mc bore and for corrosion. If you find either of these then a new body should be used.

OK, to make SURE there is no confusion:

the drawing that was retaken here from an earlier post is a drawing for a S1 MC alright. I scanned the drawing of the S2/3 MC and modified it to represent a S1 MC at the time. The drawing that I posted just now is the original drawing of the S2/3 MC.

I think you will find you can't confuse the larger and smaller rubbers among each other, as the wrong ones will not fit in the positions they aren't intended for. But there is something else important: there is a groove in the rubbers. It is very important that the groove face the correct way. Three have to face the groove to the front of the car, while the second from left on the drawing has to face its groove to the back! If you don't, the thing doesn't work (believe me, I tried it all by stupid mistakes I made).

It is recommended that you really dismantle all parts and clean very carefully, as the small holes of the valves tend to clog up. When dismantling, note down exactly what fits where, and in what direction! (I use a printout of the drawing to lay down the parts on in the correct order and direction).

When the bores of the MC have been corroded in (a very common problem) it is absolutely necessary to replace it. There are "new" MC bodies available. I found that some reproduction bodies of the MC have small problem where the stop screw is concerned: the hole where the screw fits in isn't drilled deep enough, making the screw doesn't go deep enough to really act as a stop.

I am not entirely sure you got the correct repair set for a S1 MC, but I can be wrong

OK. Just verify with MARA to have the correct set if you would be ordering from him. If you first dismantle the old one, you can immediately see if the bores have been corroded in (it is rather likely they did I am afraid ) and I think MARA can supply you a new body as well

I would change it. The collar is one thing. But the inside is bad too, and it really matters.

If you would buy a new (reproduction): for the S1 1.3S with the brake booster for the front brakes, it needs to be a 19mm bore version, not the 18mm of the other S1 Fulvias. Best check the bore diameter of the one you got now, it should be 19mm.

Re: rallye 1.3s brake pedal go to the ground

    Hi guys.
    Master cylinder changed.
Do you know how to reach bleeding nipple of rear brake balancer? I can touch the nipple but I can t turn it because of the very little space available.
    Thank you.
