Re: Synthetic gearbox oils in the USA

Your mechanic's right; Lightweight ShockProof would have worked fine. The effort's even less with the Lightweight, but I don't think you can go wrong with the MTL. Either one is such an improvement...

They look great. In fact, some of the period rubber 'overmats' were red with black pattern.

Re: Forswearing all but a Fulvia

I'll give you my standard advice on buying an HF: Don't buy one unless you really need one -- and most people don't need one. If you really want a 1600 Fulvia, look for an S2 1600HF -- not an S1...

    Re: Var1016 engine numbers

I'd be interested in learning which chassis it is (engine 540.001014 ran in chassis 001004 in the 1969 Marathon de la Route). Verifying a V1016 can be a challenge. Many but not all V1016s are stamped...

    Re: Var1016 engine numbers

There are at least 41 works competition engines recorded, but engines weren't assigned to individual works chassis. At any given time there was a working pool of around 30 engines. After an event the...

I left out the punchline to that story: the seller 25 miles away from me was Adan Figueroa. We've been friends ever since.

Re: Forswearing all but a Fulvia

Rust can be a problem with any '60s or '70s car. And buying any car in Italy sight unseen, from anyone other than a dealer with a good reputation, always involves risk. Personally, I wouldn't do so...

  11. Re: Original equipment tyres for a MonteCarlo - is it Pirelli Cinturato 185/70VR13 CN

I ran across the same discrepancy on the P7 in Pirelli's own information; that's why I believe the 'documentation' is less trustworthy than your direct experience..

    Re: Unleaded fuel

Sure. Depending on your engine set-up, you may not get much benefit from the higher octane, but there's no real safety issue.

Re: A question about fuel lines

I used to use the double-spring clamps like the illustration on Brian's 'Bevel Heaven' link. But because of some slight wear on the brass fuel tubes of the old carbs, I had some weeping, so I now...

Re: A question about fuel lines

Cavis clear fuel hose starts out blue-green; fuel turns it greener, and eventually darker and translucent. It'll work with ethanol. You can find it with a simple search; you're looking for Cavis 7 x...

Re: Forswearing all but a Fulvia

I'd keep an eye on Bring a Trailer; they get Fulvias from time to time. In fact they had two this past week, one of which was a steal, even with the shipping costs:...
  17. Re: Original equipment tyres for a MonteCarlo - is it Pirelli Cinturato 185/70VR13 CN

The documentation I've seen says the P6 wasn't introduced that early. Clearly the documentation must be wrong; I wouldn't doubt your memory even we were speaking of a less-memorable tire than the...

  20. Re: Original equipment tyres for a MonteCarlo - is it Pirelli Cinturato 185/70VR13 CN

The S1 Montecarlo / Scorpion was standard with 185/70-13, and the factory brochure appears to show CN36s.

The P6 was introduced in 1979, and one of the first cars it was fitted to was the Beta...

Coco mats were never standard and never a factory option. I run rubber pavimento, but like Brian protect it in front with carpet floor mats
  22. Re: Hello from a soon to be 1970 Fulvia 1.3 S2 Owner - Daily Driver?!?

The mechanical pump is better than an electric for reliability, but when the car sits for a few days, the fuel in the carb bowls evaporates and it can take a lot of cranking to prime the bowls.

Re: Taddraughn's Fulvia Coupe: Progress Thread

Mine came with a simple plate. Coincidentally or not, it also came with the central locating bolt sheared and the spring shifted to the passenger side; the driver's side sat 1/2" lower.
