Building a 1/20 scale D-50

The D-50 is progressing well. The basic chassis is complete after alot of fiddling with the tubes to get them in the right place before glueing. Once the side and top assemblies are in place , I used the firewall to locate them exactly where it needs to be. Then to make sure its all in the right place I added the engine which has 4 locating pins for engine mounts on the bottom and 2 in the firewall. It all fits so tightly once in place that I haven't needed to ca glue it in place.
I believe that Vittorio Jano was the first or one of the first designers to use the engine as a stressed member of the chassis, bolting the engine directly to the firewall and frame tubes.
With the engine in place I fed tubes through the firewall to the magnetos and connected them to the spark plug wire tubes.
The rear transverse gearbox fits up against the lower chassis tube and is hung from the top tube. I very carefully tweaked the tubes so that it fit snugly. Large caps are used to clamp the trans housing to the lower tube and slightly smaller ones are used up top. When glueing it all up I almost forgot to attach the shift arm on the trans housing to the gear shifter and the prop shaft needs to fit in its hole as well.
Next up will be adding the big rear de-dion tube, drive shafts and rocker arm suspension.
