  1. Building a 1/20 scale Lancia D-50 #7

    Hello,
I've written out long winded posts about the D-50 progress and tried to post it with pictures but for whatever reason, it doesn't post. So , life being too short and all, Ill just post pics from now on.
A very brief summary of the additions include the radiator and oil cooler, front leaf spring with adjustable damper, worm and roller steering box, steering column , bell crank and tie rods, front shocks and frame / suspension uprights.

  2. Building a 1/20 scale Lancia D-50

The rear de-dion tube sits on a cast aluminum housing connected to the leaf spring and transaxle. Its a bit tricky because the driveshaft ends need to be inserted into both the transaxle and the hubs at the same time when gluing it together.
At each end of the de-dion tube , 2 pieces of photo-etch are glued together and then bent out to form the upper and lower connection points for the long and short radius arms. The other end of the radius arms are glued to holes drilled into the chassis ...

  3. Building a 1/20 scale D-50

The D-50 is progressing well. The basic chassis is complete after alot of fiddling with the tubes to get them in the right place before glueing. Once the side and top assemblies are in place , I used the firewall to locate them exactly where it needs to be. Then to make sure its all in the right place I added the engine which has 4 locating pins for engine mounts on the bottom and 2 in the firewall. It all fits so tightly once in place that I haven't needed to ca glue it in place.
    I believe ...

  4. Building a 1/20 scale D-50

Work on the real Lancias continues with the Scorpion having its rear 3/4 windows re-glued into place as well as the plastic trim that goes around the windows and the HPE has its re-built starter motor back and should be in by tomorrow.
In the meantime I have started putting together the tube chassis on the D-50. This stage of the build requires a lot of clean-up filing of the tubes and drilling the tubes to ensure a solid connection. The tough part is that you really need to dry fit all ...

  5. Scorpion Window track

Try to do a different project everyday on my ground up Scorpion project. To that end, today is window track refurbishment day.
What a mess, I finally got the stuck spiral run spring nearly out of the metal track and need to remove some internal rust in the
track so as the line will move freely. My question is: The spring track is foam filled and I'm wondering what would be the best
lubricant after I clean the internal track. Grease or silicon? I'm leaning towards Redline ...
