The air intake hose (from the air filter to the carbuerator) has failed a few times on my car, and it's expensive for something that holds no pressure. I noticed that it was cracking again and went looking for an alternate hose or other fix at the local boat store. The hose has a slight bend so no alternate works, but the dealer excitedly took me around the store to show me a relatively new product sold as rigging tape. This interesting stuff (rubbaweld) is applied to a clean hose and is stretched as it is wound, after which it "melts" into itself, creating a new "like rubber" surface. According to the packaging, when used to repair a hose it will hold a good deal of pressure. It is meant as an emergency fix for boats at sea, as well as a neat way of protecting turnbuckles. I am quite happy with how it seemed to work on my hose.
