I see the dreaded cracking in the plastic straps that hold the top in place. Any ideas on what to do before they break, or after? I remember replacing them once and paying about 300 if memory serves, but not sure they are even still available. Not the best design feature of the Scorpion, IMHO.
Cheers, Joe

I have repaired mine with piano-hinges and rivets. Because that's by no means pretty I glued the same material as the softtop is made on the strips to finish it. Not as pretty ofcourse as new strips, but good enough for now.

Cheers, Merijn

Hi, yep, just had a look and they have them. A little expensive, but what the hell, the car deserves it!!!!! Paul.

Tom Balon in New Hampshire also offers these, in DuPont Hytrel. I'm not sure what his current pricing is, or if it's any less.... IIRC mine were about $200USD for the pair.
I've had Tom's straps on for about 7 years now.

Hey Joe,

I bought my new straps last summer directly from Tom Balon. He had them remanufactured in the same stuff ski boot bindings are made out of - should outlast the originals, probably even the car. BTW, Tom is on our side of the pond and is the source for the Monte Hospital's roof straps, so even though they're still not cheap, they're far cheaper than paying for the exchange rate and shipping from the UK.

I think I've still got Tom's contact info. Shoot me an e-mail and I try to dig it up.

EDIT- Ahhh, Will - you beat me, we must have been typing at the same time. Ya, $200 plus shipping is what I paid last summer. They are very well made pieces and really finish the car off nicely.
