Vapor extraction pump

Hi,
in an attempt to resolve my hot starting issues on my vx ive taken out the vapor extraction pump to replace the motor. Anyone have any insight into how to get the thing open? is there a subtle technique to it or do i just cut my way in?

I have no idea, but as it seems most of them don't work anyway, I suppose you could eliminate the darn thing without much worry- I tapped and plugged a volumex casing, there's plenty of meat in the aluminum where the plastic hose barbs fit in.
