Will X1/9 front struts work on a Scorpion?

X-1/9 front and rear struts both differ from the scorpion/montecarlo application.

Will the strut inserts listed for the X1/9 fit in the Scorpion/Monte strut housings?

I have actually fitted and used X1/9 front struts on the front of my Scorp.
They seemed to work. I used some KYB GR2 struts with X1/9 rear springs on the front and it worked quite well. I did this because I was trying to sort out my Koni's. You can't use the X1/9 top, you have to use the Scorp top. Hope this helps. I also have a pic of the Scorp Koni next to the X1/9 KYB. If you want me to send it to you let me know.

Can you really use X 1/9 struts? And why the rear springs? I'd also like to see this picture. And what is the "top", do you mean the mounting to the body on top?

I agree w/Will, x19 struts really are different than Scorpion/MonteCarlo struts. I came by this info the usual way, talking to the people that are REALLY familiar w/ the 2 cars. I also have a friend w/ an x19 and we investigated in person as well. The two cars have slightly different suspension designs, x19s have no anti roll bars, for the most obvious difference. The length of the springs/struts are different, and the damping rate curve is different as well. Chad @ The Monte Hospital is the best informed on this subject as anyone in the world, he'll give you more details if you call him. Believe me, if Koni, KYB, & FIAT could sell the same struts as x19s they would in a minute. Yeah, I know people have used them & I'm sure they get down the road OK. Just not as well as they should. If it makes you feel any better, I'm in the same boat, my struts have leaked most of their vitals and don't have much damping left (if any). I'm still searching for Konis or some other answer.

I think - but I'm not sure - the X1/9 srruts don't have the travel as proper Monte ones. Chad was looking into this about 5 years ago when the source of Koni ones started to dry up - and found they wern't suitable. He's definetly the one to know/talkto/buy from !!!

This may be a little off topic but it is in the same boat as the front struts.
According to Chad, the rear a arm bushings can be replaced with urthane ones. But if you look at the a arm and you talk to Steve Hoelscher ( a huge X1/9 Guru ) you can't with out binding the arm ( you need the diflection of the stock bushing to make the a arm work ). I talked to Chad about this and he admitied he knew nothing about this but Steve has done alot of reasearch on this and if you do look at the design of the a arm he is correct. You can't use urthane. The reason why is that the pivot points are on different angles and therefor different arcs for each point. Now if you look at the front struts on the Scorp and the ones on the X1/9 they are identical accept for thr position of the actual shock in relation to the mount and perch. If you are lowering the Scorp I would think the X1/9 struts would be the way to go because you would get more travel than the Scorp struts.
I am not saying Chad is wrong but I think there is more than one way to skin a cat. I have used both struts and have had meany X1/9's and used both types of struts on my Scorp and I found that the GR2 X1/9 strut worked better than my Koni's on my Scorp. Now having said that, I may need to have my Koni's rebuilt because they are stuck on full hard. So untill I get that done my results may be different than what others have experienced. Is there any one else using X1/9 struts on thier Scorp to add to this? Or am I the only one doing it? I think it would be interesting to see another opinion on this. :)

I am doing it. I'm going to try it. I talked with Dave at Apple Motors and he uses Scorpion Koni's on his X race car. I guess I think this business that X struts don't work well is all hype.

Plus I'm a college student, I don't have the money for Ledas.
