Hi Everyone,
I HAVE OWNED A 1991 LANCIA DELTA HF TURBO IE (LHD) FOR AROUND TWO YEARS. BROUGHT IT IN A RIGHT STATE AND HAD IT FULLY RESTORED - MUST BE ONE OF THE CLEANEST AND HEALTHIEST ONES AROUND! NO EXPENSE SPARED AT ALL!
I HAD A FULL ROLLING ROAD TUNE ON THE CAR BACK IN JUNE (HAVING 146,000 km ON THE CLOCK) AND THE CAR WAS PRODUCING 121 BHP AND 133 LB/FT OF TORQUE AT THE WHEELS. THE CAR ALSO HAD A 180BHP CHIP INSTALLED, MADE BY SUPERCHIPS. THE GUY ABORTED THE TUNE AS THE COMPRESSION WAS TOO LOW ON EXHAUST VALVES 2 AND 3 AND RECOMMENDED A FULL TOP-END REBUILD WHICH I HAD DONE A WEEK LATER.
I HAD ANOTHER ROLLING ROAD TUNE TWO WEEKS AGO - NEW VALVES / GUIDES - YOU NAME IT, IT WAS REPLACED DURING THE REBUILD. THIS TIME ON THE ROLLING ROAD, THE CAR SCORED 128 BHP AND 137 LB/FT OF TORQUE - A PRETTY POOR INCREASE IF YOU ASK ME CONSIDERING ALL OF THE WORK INVOLVED.
THE CAR HAS SENSIBLE MODIFICATIONS, K&N AIR FILTER, UPRATED FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR, BLEED VALVE AND A SUPPOSEDLY 180 BHP CHIP - ANOTHER I PURCHASED WHICH WAS MADE BY SOME GERMAN COMPANY (AFTER I WAS TOLD THAT MY FIRST CHIP COULD HAVE DESTROYED MY ENGINE!)
I UNDERSTAND THAT FACTORY SPECIFICATIONS (LIKE TORQUE AND POWER) ARE MEASURED FROM THE FLYWHEEL, AND POWER IS LOST UPON THE TRANSFER TO THE WHEELS, BUT 128 BHP AND 137 LB/FT DOES SEEM A LITTLE LOW TO ME!
DOES ANYBODY ELSE THINK THIS SEEMS UNUSUALLY LOW, OR IS IT JUST ME! IT ISN'T THE FASTEST CAR IN THE WORLD I KNOW - I HAVE OWNED A 1301CC, AND 1600 IE AND NOW THIS ONE. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THE TURBO SPINS UP FINE, ALTHOUGH ON FULL BOOST THE PRESSURE SWITCH CUTS IN AND TRYS TO SLOW THE ENGINE DOWN - THIS ALSO MAKES ME THINK IT COULD EITHER BE A VERY CHEAP CHIPSET, OR JUST A STANDARD ONE WITH A DIFFERENT NAME ON IT! (I DON'T KNOW WHAT MAKE IT IS BY THE WAY!) DOES ANYBODY RECOMMEND A PARTICULAR BRAND OF CHIP TO PUT IN THIS CAR - I KNOW BOB BRAIN DEVELOPMENTS MAKE ONE FOR IT AT £350, BUT ARE THERE ANY OTHERS?
