Well, I had heard of Barn finds, but I think I discovered something new... I am calling it a suburb find. A couple of weeks ago I saw an ad for a 1988 Alfa Spider Veloce with 7000 miles on it. I exchanged a couple of emails with the guy and it sounded too good to be true.
Last Wednesday I happened to be in Chicago where the car was located and decided to take a look. Sure enough, it didn't have 7,000 miles. It had 6,600 miles and was almost perfect. So I picked the car up, did a once over in my brothers garage and drove it back to DC on Friday. It ran perfectly. I am not sure what I am going to do with it, but it really is a brand new 1988 car.
Here are some photos from before I actually bought it.

Very nice Ed, but this forum is all about Lancia Scorpions and Montecarlos.
There is a Non-Lancia area.

WOW! That's PRISTINE! Congratulations, Ed, and you got a later L-jet model, which is a bonus- rather than the dreaded SPICA.

True, but I noticed that on the manufacturing plate it actually says "Lancia" so I figured it would not be too offensive. This note was more about an odd place to find a car then a Alfa note. Considering this is my second "suburb" find I thought it would be appropriate...

REALLY??! I Never noticed that, which plate? Is that a late-model-only thing?

Hello Ed,
OK you are partially forgiven !
Hello Ed and Will,
When Alfa Romeo became part of the FIAT group the VIN plates started to have "ALFA LANCIA INDUSTRIES SRL" on them. So no Betas have that but Deltas, Themas and following cars do (after 1986-ish).
I have uploaded an image of a Thema plate.

All Lancias from the late 80s and 90s have got ALFA-LANCIA on the manufacturers plate, in those days Lancia and Alfa where grouped together within the FIAT conglomerate.
LOL, A1.6HPE was quicker. Btw, since that date many parts have a symbol on it that is a combination of Alfa, Fiat and Lancia logos.

Ah...that explains a lot, as the lastest Alfa Spider I've gone over carefully is '84. There are very few late Spiders here, although there are a few 164's around. I shall have to take a look at the next 164 more closely to see if it has a Lancia plate. Funny IMO it's not Alfa-FIAT rather than Alfa-Lancia.
Of course (and more relative to this subtopic) most of the 76 Scorpions and assume also the early S1 Montecarlos are badged FIAT on the plate on the tail panel, while most if not all '77's are badged Lancia. I would imagine the s2 Montes would also be badged Lancia, but that would defy the utter lack of logic exhibited by Lancia/FIAT in this time period.
