I'd like to get the seats done on my Scorpion. I removed the cushions from one side (so I can still drive) and I'm taking them around to shops. Any suggestions in DC-Baltimore area or to ship to? How much should this cost? (first estimate was about half of the value of the car- 1200 for leather- for this I may get into the business myself)

Yeah! I had these guys do my top.... Its a chain but the local guy is pretty good. If you talk to them, see if he will give you a break on 2 cars. I am thinking about having mine done and if there is money to be saved, I am all for it.

Since I won't be doing a lot of driving 'til the warm weather returns, I was thinking about having my seats done as they are a bit taty at the seams. I'd planned to wait 'til around Spring, but there's really no reason I need to wait. Maybe we're talking about a 3 car discount. Let us know what you find out, Joe.

I decided to go with a guy in Millersville, MD (GS), and to go with vinyl vice leather. Since my car is not heading for the concours anytime soon, vinyl seemed to be the best choice and the owner of GS was encouraging regarding the quality of that material. The feel of the material is great and the color match as well. It will be the third time I'm buying seats in the car (counting the original purchase) and I'm not keen to spend half of its value on them. I'm retaining the headrests- still the original leather- as I've done before.

I talked to him about a volume discount, but he only does custom work so he would not, for example, cut three sets of seat cushions to fit all of our cars. He is charging me $470 for two backrests and two cushions (ie all but the headrests on both seats). I got estimates from four shops and had the best feeling with this gentleman.

I'll let you know how it works out. BTW, I had some "fun" getting the seats out- and needed to cut a hole to get the passenger side out. The driver side was likewise stuck but there was already a hole rusted out- now with a new plate welded there.

I decided to go with a guy in Millersville, MD (GS), <snip> He is charging me $470 for two backrests and two cushions (ie all but the headrests on both seats). That's an outstanding price. I expected more like the $800 range. Please forward me the contact info when you get a chance.

Did you happen to get a price for leather at this shop? I wasn't sure if the $1200 quote was from the same place.

Hello Friends, The guy seems like a straight-shooter. He is charging me an hourly rate (I think it is $70) and the only difference with leather is that it takes a little longer and the leather costs more. There is some dependence on whether or not one can do it with half of a hide; they are sold that way. He thought it would probably be 900-1000 for leather; again doing all but the headrests. He also offered to dye the headrests to match the final job but I'm waiting to see how it looks. The shop is GS in Millersville, MD, but you may want to wait until my work is done next week. I'll report back on how it goes and what the final price is. Cheers and Merry Christmas to them who celebrate it. Joe

Got the seats back, a few days after promised. Workmanship is good and I'm happy with the job and price (490). If you want to see them, get in touch. G+S Upholstery in Millersville did the work, and he's working on some armrests for me now. Cheers, Joe
