View Full Version : Hesitation on accelerating

Although I've kind of got used to it my 1.3 Fulvia S2 has an annoying habit of hesitating on acceleration.
Normally accelerating out of a junction for instance, the car kind of stut-stut-stutters before things pick up and off we go. Once up to speed the car runs really well.

This glitch was present before the carb was overhauled (new accelerator pumps in bottom of Solex carbs etc.) and is still there. The car has a new fuel filter and has Lumenition optical electronic ignition timing. I don't think there are any gaps/holes in the carb-to-engine rubber mountings.

Because there is no-one particularly competent in the immediate vicinity of where I live that I could take for a diagnostic, are there any obvious things I can look at myself?! :?

Many thanks.

Hi Kev,

Just a few questions and thoughts here without knowing the history of your Fulvia:

When you overhauled the carbs what were the status of the jets? Also it *sounds* like it *could* be a slight fuel starvation issue so you may want to check the float bowl levels of the carbs again. Lastly check anything in the fuel delivery system leading up to the carbs...including the fuel pump and fuel line, "health" of the fuel tank ect..ect...all fairly straight forward stuff.

Does this hesitation occur when the car is going straight, turning or both?

Hope the helps.

Hi Timo

Thanks for the reply.

The car hesitates under low speeds i.e. from initial acceleration. Once on the move it runs fine.

The pipe work all seems to be in pretty good order so the carbs are looking like the most likely culprits! Looks like I may have to get them to a specialist.

Thanks,
Kev.
