Does anyone know the acceptable clearance/backlash between the actual oil pump gears (2l Beta)?

.15mm or 6 thou " is the official spec, but many NEW aftermarket pumps come wider, often come over, even 10 thou or more! So the telltale in my book is oil pressure for the given flow for that particular motor.

The main factor is the clearence betwen gear and case- 0.15 mm max.

Talking of oil pumps - I brought a new one for a fiat 132 at an autojumble in Italy last week - and it appears to be exactly the same as a monte one appart from a different pick-up and bottom elbow which can easily be swapped. Rumour has it the pressure relief spring is different - again this can be changed over.

The splines are longer - but I reckon it will all go together into a monte block - at at 10 euros it's cheeper than a "proper" one !
