Hello bbb,
Put the Beta back to standard and it will look great and get you respect.
BMWs are for people who cannot think for themselves they simply follow the other sheep.
If you give up on the Beta go for something more recent, perhaps a Mazda would be the Japanese equivalent of Lancia.

bbb,
Under almost any other circumstances I'd say don't bother with the Bee-Em, but an E30 325i is a bit different because it ranks, in my humble, as one of the best-rounded machines ever made. Still a remarkably lithe, elegant shape (later Threes look/are tubby and miss the point), totally bulletproof reliability and unburstable build quality, and faultless ergonomics, with absolutely no I-Drive in sight, because that's how BMW used to do things back then. The inline six is a gem of a motor and if it's been tweaked up from the stock 170bhp to 260 it will be an absolute flyer. The chassis is a tad taily in the wet, perhaps, but not necessarily a bad thing, as long as you're aware of the car's limits.
A friend used to run an E30 320i and has regretted selling it ever since, so much so he's intent on recapturing the spirit with a 325is.
Short version, if it's a good price I'd grab it and use it as a daily driver. You can then spend the money you save on keeping it running on the Beta. I take Leo's point about being a sheep if you drive a Bee-Em, but to my mind an E30 still garners respect. After that they started to lose the plot and every new model seems to be even worse than the last in terms of styling and quality.
Finally, avoid a new 2005 car at all costs. For that kind of money it will be cheap, disposable, nasty, as well as depreciation central. Just don't bother. I'd actually suggest that the BMW will be cheaper to run, as long as you go to every length to avoid BMW stealerships and find a good specialist.

I switched from BMW325iX (e30) to Alfa-Romeo 75 2.0TwinSpark and never regret anything except for wintertime ride (it was AWD  ). 2.5 is very brisk at low rev, Alfa enging is a miracle above 3000 rpm. I would stay with Beta and have something new as a backup.
BTW, is this Bimmer a modified one? 2.5 liter M20 engine of e30 has 170HP, not 260.

its highly moded and puts out just under 300 ponies about 296 on the dyno also has bilsten lowered and uprated suspension and a full stainless from moter back includig hand made custom tuned lenth headers every single hode or line except fuel is braided and the fuel is the hard bendy pipe normally used to get from tank to the front but it is used in the car its basically a 2.9L engine and with a chip witch it doesnt have ill be looking at the same power as a 3.0 or 3.2 m3 in high tuned form and its only $7000 or $20000 for a 340hp four banger e30 m3 or 27000 for a 550hp four banger turbo e30 m3 so im think damn it ill buy it and drive it as my daily while i finish pouring money into my hobby car sorry cars and the look you get here in oz when you burn a v8 is worth its wait in gold cause everyone has a v8 m8 they are fully sick m8(ahh noo)
any way thanks for the comment i think i will buy the e30325is and just have some luxury for a while and when i want balls out fun jump into my 1600 rorty little coupe
