What tyre would people recommend for a Fanalone ? Should I stick with the original Michelin (if still available) or are there better modern alternatives ?

Hi Neil
What do you plan to do with the car.
Older design tyres tend to keep the fabulous poise and nimbleness that Fulvias are famous for, whereas modern tyres which are much more square in cross section loose this, but offer more ultimate grip.

Thanks for the prompt reply.
It is a standard Lusso, and I intend to keep it that way, enthusiastic road use for the moment nothing more. I don't intend to have any mods on the car at all if I can help it - so I am tempted by going down the originality route.
What I don't want is
a) something that drastically changes the driving dynamics (ie loads more grip but terrible ride)
b) something that alters the look of the car
Other than that I am open to informed advice !

I think the circuit racers use Yokohama tyres on standard rims - not sure of exact size but these have tremendous grip which will put additional stresses on the subframe mounts and bodywork. I read somewhere that the Lusso tested by a UK magazine at the MIRA test track when the car was first introduced produced some of the highest lateral G ever experienced there in a production car.

I have run various tyres and wheels on a 1.6 for circuit/track use. All are 13 inch which helps acelleration especially in sprints and hill climbs. Yokohama Advan 032R are great all rounders give excellent grip in both dry and damp but have not experienced very wet - yet! Michelin TB15 are also good are 'period' rally style of the late 60's and 70's in modern rubber but very expensive -around £120 each. Both types are road legal and usable on a track day where you can have some real fun. Most Fulvias ran 14 inch wheels but HF's had 13. Remember that in those days most tyres were 80 section - a lot taller than todays efforts.

Only S1 HF's wore 13" wheels. All S2 HF's wore 14" wheels.

One of the problems if you want to keep to original dimensioned tyres is the limited selection available.
Last times I replaced my front tyres the only ones readily available were Dunlops. These are nasty and squeal like a pig without much provocation. I would not get this make again. The Michelins that preceded them were far better.
