View Full Version : Fulvia Horn - help

MOT time for the Fulvia (1.3 S2 Coupé)
Basic checks and I note that the horn doesn't work.

Pressing the horn I can hear the horn solenoid clicking in the engine bay but nothing else.
Having a look under the dash and there are a number of wires that are adrift. Tracing some of these I think they are 'additions' made by a previous owner on fitting hazard warning lights - since removed - as everything else bar the horn seems to work. One of these adrift wires I'm guessing must be horn related though!

Touching the wires on probable connectors does nothing except for one wire. If I touch this on one of the indicator flasher unit contacts the horn makes an 'attempt' to sound (i.e. the solenoid click is accompanied by a very muted 'parp' noise) but this is only very short in time with the click and definitely not a continuous proper horn noise. This wire is a yellow/red coloured.

Can anyone help me out? What coloured wire(s) should I be looking for with regard to the horn. Where should these be connected to? Is the red-yellow wire a red herring?

Many thanks in advance.

Any ideas guys? Was hoping to fix this problem at the weekend.
Much appreciated.

From Fuse 7 Avvis to horn solenoid
red &
brown 1.5mm wire

from horn solenoid
red and brown wires from fuse 7
earth
black wire from steering column horn switch
green 1.5mm wire to horns

from horn switch
black wire to horn solenoid

Hope this helps. Do you have a wiring diagram? There should be one in the drivers handbook

Top notch. This should help big time.
The wiring diagram I have (photocopy and hard to read!) is for an 818.630 model (which I assume my 1.3 S2 Coupé is as it was in glovebox of car) and I can just about make out what looks like 'bianco' for the wire to the horn. Since 'white' is not mentioned in your kind reply something is clearly amiss!
Your run down seems to offer more hope! Thank you.

818.630 is the left hand drive version of a Fulvia S2 1.3 Coupe

The horn now works - thanks.
Turned out the problem was a wire but it was also a two fold problem. After eventually managing to trace the errant wire, fixing it and checking the horn worked I came back later to put things together and, guess what, the horn didn't work.
Open the fuse panel and press the horn and I notice a very small spark at fuse 7. Take the fuse out and it looks damaged on the uppermost tip. Replace it and things are working, and have continued to work, just fine.
I don't do much night time driving but this might also help explain an intermittent problem I've had with headlights.

Just a tip out there to anyone having intermittent problems. Don't automatically blame dodgy Italian wiring. It might just be that dodgy fuse instead!
