Greetings folks :D
Have just finished stage 1 of the brake rebuild on 'Mario' the trusty ( :?: ) VX coupe and thought I'd put in a quick post bearing in mind how much talk there'd been about conversions......
It's not that I've done anything really major except :?: rebuilding the calipers - the fronts are a real pain in the a  se - but what a difference
The rear discs were replaced with NOS Lancia parts and the fronts are Brembo standard replacements with Mintex pads supplied by Bazza www.evocars.com which I have to say are the dogs danglies....
The old discs were absolutely shot, I had no idea they were so bad until they came off. My local garage kindly let me use their ramps to work on my cars, so whilst mario was 'airborne' they had a look at the old front discs before I hammered them off... to quote the garage owner: "those fronts look more like a ploughed park (park= field in local dialect) than brake discs". It was a brilliant summary  and the brakes are now hugely confidence inspiring.
I guess the upshot/moral of this is that before you get tempted to convert your car to something other than standard check over and replace the standard system.
A couple of new pipes, discs + pads plus rebuilt calipers have transformed 'Mario' and could probably do the same for any other Beta owner disturbed by poor brakes. I'd say rebuilding the calipers should be a priority.
Part 2 of the rebuild will be replacing the rubber hoses with a Goodrich braided steel set... but don't tell the wife  :!:

There is wide unification on beta: old front discs are useble in rear after turner work. Brake on beta always very good, but very important looking for properely condition of rubber covers of pistons, especially of rear brake. This covers offen destroyed after substitution of brake pads.
