Has anyone successfully mounted 6x9" speakers, without cutting metal, in the rear side panels of their Beta coupe or spider/Zagato? I'm considering this for my '79 Zag, would prolly "stealth mount" the speakers behind the trim panel on each side, replacing the stock vinyl covering on those panels with either perforated vinyl or acoustically-transparent fabric (so as not to have an obvious, surface-mounted speaker grille). There's a pretty big opening in the metal frame behind the trim panel, but not sure offhand if a 6x9" oval would fit in there without cutting metal... :?: If not, what's the largest speaker anyone's managed to fit back there? :?:

I have recently investigated this option in my coupe and discovered that to install 6x9's would require the complete removal of boxed bracing member.

I checked this against a HPE I had that had already had 6x9's installed when it came into my posession, and sure enough, the whole member was removed.

So, from my experience 6" dia is the largest you can fit.

In my Budget Zagato I managed to fit 6x9 speakers on the rear side panels, surface mounted. I had to peen over the inner metal edge of the targa bar mount to gan the extra needed space.

Up front, 5" rounds fit behind the stock kick panels. I used black rubber foam weatherstrip to takc up any gaps in both locations.

i took the back seat tops out and then replaced the area with a peice of mdf and now have 6x9s and a nice breather hole for the four 12" subs in the boot as well as taking out the actuall bottem seats(rear) putting all my amps in where they where and replacing with a hinged mdf lid coverd it all with black strch carpet lovly and yes 5" in the doors its a fairly loud and nice system but it means no one goes in the back at all as the are no seats now
