A note as to how I fixed the lifter mechanism on my VX.
The lower part of the flexible rack was worn and corroded from picking up shit in the bottom of the door. This caused it to jam and jump near the top of the travel.
I fixed this by removing the rack and carrier that attaches to window.
The spot welds that attach rack to carrier are drilled out to allow separation of the two. The rack is then swapped end for end and braze/weld the two back together. Some delicacy required to maintain clearances.
The worn part is now in a part of the rack not used. The lifter has worked fine ever since.
