I'm hoping the internal fan systems on LX Delta's and integrale's are fairly similar so maybe you guys can help me out... Basically, when you turn the cabin fan on you can hear it working, but very little air is blown from the vents, even on full power. I've found that when I remove the tube labelled 1 in the above photo's, then air is blown into the cabin as it should be. The white plastic elements attatched to the back of the cylinder the tube was removed from also change position. If the engine isn't running, then you can re-attatch the tube and the fan will continue to work. However, the minute you start the engine the plastic parts go back to their previous positions and the air stops blowing. The tube coming from the other side of 1 travels along the bulkhead to point 2, which I'm assuming is some sort of vacuum, and a pipe from that connects it to the engine block at 3.

The fan is working so I don't think it's a fuse or anything - does anyone here know what could be causing this?

Also, recently the engine has begun running rather poorly. It won't stay at constant revs. If I were to try to maintain a constant 2000 revs then it will oscillate between 1600 and 2000 revs, this leads to the car being jumpy when you're trying to maintain a constant speed, it also doesn't seem to be accelerating as smoothly as it should, with acceleration dipping and rising in time with the rev oscillations. The plugs are roughly 1 year old with about 10000 miles on them, as are the HT leads - a new distributor was fitted a few months ago. Again, any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated.

Finally, the dash electronics seem to have a mind of their own. The speedometer only works when it feels like it, and often seems to cut out or come on at the same time I press the brake pedal... Having said that, it will cut out or come on when I'm just cruising on a motorway. Could this be connected to a hissing noise which comes from behind the dash when the car is running? Also, could it be linked to the economy-meter not working all the time as well? Again, any help anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated! :D

Hello Johnny Delta,
In the beginning Lancia created the 1979 Delta - this has been made a lot of people happy and is widely regarded as good.
The heater/ventilation controls are operated pneumatically by air pressure in combination with the vacuum generated by the air/fuel being sucked in through the inlet manifold. The volume of the vacuum is also a measure of the fuel consumption. So yes the fact that the "Economy Meter" is not working is significant. Also the stability of the idle speed is dependant upon all the air/fuel being fed through the carburettor so a leak can cause rough or erratic idle. You need to extract the instrument panel and put the little black hose connection back on to the tube for the "Economy Meter". Alternatively you could disconnect the appropriate tube from the 3 way adaptor beside the vacuum reservoir (leading to item 2). The plumbing would need to be adapted a bit to avoid leaving the system "open". Another possibility would be to remove the vacuum tube that connects to Item 1 and push that so that the flap is in the required postion. With the vacuum removed the flap will stay put (I think!). Best bet is to do the proper job and remove the instrument panel (4 or 5 small allen headed bolts in the underside of the dashboard surround.
The speedometer problem is common and is usualy the sender unit at the differential (easily seen sticking up behind the transmission) - has a couple of wires coming out of the top of it. They are expensive to buy but are common to lots of Fiats so you may get one from a breakers yard (make sure that you can return it if you choose another dud). However the brake pedal effect may mean that simply it is a dodgy connection near the sender unit.
