bit annoying maybe do to use of American English?? I can type it in all fine but it shows as £ when the post is posted!!

Because of some fluke in the software, many special characters will only display if entered in "advanced mode". That seems to be the default mode for an original reply, but if the reply is edited afterwards, the default editing mode is normal. So if you don't check "go advanced" before you hit "submit reply" the special characters will revert to the garbage you're seeing. You can go back into edit mode, check "advanced" and correct them (which I have to do every time I forget the "advanced" mode step).

I have oftened wondered this since it is very irritating when reading some of the posts.
Thanks Ed for explaining how to overcome the problem.

No--if that were true, US$ would display as *%?@*^&!!!
