I can't seem to find the thread regarding Beta LSD's. One of our members has made a conversion to fit the Gripper unit. Could he please post, i really need to speak with you. Thanks!
On the Rally car side, the cage is in. The suspension will be arriving any day. We will be seam welding the car the first week of the new year. Then, the engine will be built up. I'll get some pics posted once we have the car looking a bit more complete. Our goal is to attend the first rally of the year. The 100 Acre Wood, in Missouri. Thanks again.
Dan
P.S. Anyone who has performed a brake upgrade, I'd like to hear what you used. I would like to upgrade the brakes to more modern units.

Dan, good luck with the project. Have you seen this thread in relation to brakes (http://www.lancisti.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1032)?

Chris, thanks for posting. It seems the development of a bolt in Gripper will be some time away. I need to make the conversion you did. If you have assembled a "kit" i need one. Alternatively, if you are willing to share the process, please do. The cage is finished and i'll be building up the motor soon. Thank you again.

Hi Dan,
Did Tom say how long it would take to produce a Beta LSD ?. The last time I phoned him, he was in the States - I was ringing to ask if he wanted my Beta diff to use to develop the new one. I will speak to him in the new year.
Do you know if he has got stock of the Alfa 164 diff ?. If he hasn't then it could take 5-6 weeks to get a new batch made. Unfortunately, I haven't got a batch of driveshafts made as yet, as there was no other interest. I will see how I get on with my modified one, but I’m sure I will need a new billet one made.
If you want to go down the route of using the Gripper Alfa 164 LSD, then you are going to need the following from a Thema :-
Intermediate driveshaft
Nearside diff/driveshaft flange
Both diff driveshaft oil seal carriers
Plastic speedo drive from diff (only if need to have a mech speedo)
The best bet would be to get the complete ‘box, but may not be cheap. You will need to get the end of your Beta intermediate shaft cut and then spliced/welded with the splined end of the Thema intermediate shaft to get the correct length. I can take a pic/post overall length if you require it. You will need new bearings pressed onto the new diff , (SKF 320009X), plus new shims to get the correct preload - I can give you the instructions on how to do this.
As you can see a fair bit of work, but you will have to do the bearings/pre-load even if you don’t go the Alfa route. Hope this all makes some sort of sense!. I must admit I would probably hold out for Tom to produce a Beta LSD if I was you, but I don’t know your timescales.
Don’t hesitate to ask if you need any more details.
Regards,
Chris

Chris,
The swap doesn't sound too terrible. I would prefer to wait for a bolt in unit, but our first race is Feb 25/26. IF Gripper can get one finished by then that would be excellent. However, I think a backup plan at this point would be prudent.
The intermediate shaft weld sounds like the potential weak point. If we could get one made for us, that could eleviate some of the concern. Thank you for laying out the details. I'll stay in touch with you as we get closer to a decision.
