Hello
Can anyone tell me the best way to remove the vertical shift shaft so I may replace the worn bottom gromet? There's a nylon fastener that holds it all together at the top, and I want to know how to remove that fastener without damaging it. Please help. Thanks, Allan

It's simple to remove. It pops right off.

You can do with a prybar or large screwdriver between the bar and the bushing mount. Find a place to get a good spot of leverage, then pop it off. Reassembly is just a matter of lubricating it, setting it back in place, then squeezing it with a large pair of adjustable pliers until it pops back on.

Those bushes are really tough and almost impossible to harm if they are still pliable. But that red one may very well be an original so it may be time to replace it anyway. Those ones harden and crack over time. If you've never replaced them, I'd say it's time to do so while you have it apart.

Are these readily available? I saw that TMH has the 'bottom' one (http://montehospital.net/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=15&products_id=456), but doesn't list the upper... I had an original red one disintegrate.

TMH lists them here (http://montehospital.net/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=15&products_id=455). They aren't the original red ones but are actually much better. I don't know of anywhere you can get originals anymore any probably wouldn't buy them anyway with better ones available.

If you had one disintegrate you probably should consider replacing them all because they will all go eventually. If you're certain that you only need the one for now, I may have a spare TMH bush I can send you.

Thanks, DJ! I saw that item listed and didn't even think about the potential benefit of replacing them all. Silly of me.
