Hi,
Ive got the cylinder head off my series 3 1600 beta coupe and Ive got a couple of questions before I put her back together.

1) Cylinder head gasket, I purchased one listed for a 1600 lancia beta but it seems its for the series one with the smaller diameter bore. Mine has the 84mm bore, does this mean a 2l gasket will fit? Out of intrest does anyone know what cylinder head gasket my prisma 1600ie would take?

2) Thermostat, Ive read in a number of places about putting a thermostat in the head. (My 3 way one seems to be stuck open) Is there a thermostat from another car that fits the space or does the head or pipe need to be modified?

Cheers
Laurence

The 2 litre gasket should fit OK.

Your Prisma gasket will be different, as you know a Delta 1600 gasket is the same and is easier found in most manuals/parts lists :!:

The in-head modification for yor Beta:
Yes - you will need to modify the pipe in the head. Not too much, the details are listed in Guy Crofts book but I can pass on the info to you if you wish - send me a PM.
In brief though, the modification requires a GM manufactured thermostat (if memory serves) and some chamfering out of the head-to-top water rail connection (on the pipe obviously  ). You'll also need to get rid of the secondary pipe at the other end of the top water rail, blank off the 'hole' and replace the thermostat with some suitable diameter pipe.
A fun afternoons work 8)

What you seek is a 54mm disc type thermostat. Most usually found in small block Chevy's. Any corner store here has them in several heat ranges. The 180 F one works great in the Spider as it fully opens just below what the FI temp sender thinks is "normal".

Remember to put an o-ring gasket top and bottom of the t-stat. I didn't know the Beta headpipe requires modification to fit one... it looks like there's enough room?
