Since I refush to pay 100 pounds for mr Crofts fabulous signed book here is the first of many questions.

How can one increase the compression ratio on either 1600, 1800 or 2000 engines.

Is a head skim possible, will the cam timing be greatly affected and how much metal should be removed.

Different cast pistons and any reference to another fiat part no.

Here's what the book has to say
Pistons from 131 1600 put into 2000 131/132 gives 10:1
Pistons from 132(GLS) 1800 in 2000 131/132 gives 9.5:1
Pistons from Beta 1585 in 131 1600 gives 9.5:1
Pistons from Beta 1585 in 2000 131/132 gives 10.8:1
Pistons from Beta 1585 in 132 1800 gives 9.8:1
You can skim the head but you really can't take a lot off, and you'll get better comp ratio increase by changing pistons.

So, in conclusion, the cheap route is 1600 pistons into a 2000 block. Should be able to manage that, bet my parts collection works against a cheap skate route.
