After replacing the leaking Sump on my VX Coupe I've gone to start the Car and.......nothing. It was starting/running fine beforehand and I've obviously disturbed something doing the sump-swap.

There is no spark at the plugs/coil and no lights or gauges on the dashboard - Some of the electrics are working - The starter is working for example and I've got lights/cigarette lighter. I have a feeling it's something simple such as a connector that's come unplugged when I've lifted then dropped the engine but really don't know where to start.

I've tried to work out a point on the wiring diagram common to the non-working bits but have drawn a blank. I've checked the obvious things like earthing points and the fuse box connectors but am still having no luck. The only thing that I've changed other than the sump is the ignition module as I thought the existing one was a bit suspect - I'm pretty sure even if the new one was faulty this wouldn't affect the dash-lights so have ruled this out.

After fiddling with it for the last couple of weeks I'm just about ready to throw the towel in and pay a garage to do it but am wondering if any of you guys have any ideas on this?

Cheers
Richard

Am i right in thinking there is a crank sensor that runs to the distributor (big white wire on the top of it)... Could be it? I havent seen my vx in a while to remember 100%

Ricky,
Send me an email so I can send you my telephone number - I have a couple of ideas which would be better discussed in person as I can't be a***d typing it all out here

Thanks Chris/Hamish for the suggestions - I Did try both the white wire from the Distributor and Hamish's ideas of cleaning the fusebox up (which definately needed doing)

But have finally identified the problem as a Faulty Ignition Switch. Plugged
in a new one and hey-presto...a Spark.

Don't know if it was coincedence or something I did to screw the thing up
but it's at least given me a better understanding of the jumble of wires that calls itself a wiring Loom!

I assume you checked the connection where the wiring from the ignition switch meets the rest? a traditional weak point....

Just as a matter of interest which junction do you mean Chris? The rectangular one under the steering wheel or the circular one in the engine compartment?
