With the red-white-blue color and rollup door on the side, my guess would have been ice cream van, or at least some sort of food vendor. In which case, it's not clear from the pics if those "bars" on the windows may actually be a louvered opening like a sort of jalousie window turned sideways, or possibly just a theft deterrent?

We've been here before with this one, Richard Dixon who lives in Ireland and runs a family transport business, had this up for sale about a year ago, if I remember correctly it was a fairground vehicle.
In fact there's 2 pages regarding this vehicle on the UK Lancia Forum started by non other than Neil Cundy back in November last year.
At One point it was on Pistonheads for £3500, but someone on the Forum spoke to the owner who indicated he'd let it go for £2k. It also appeared on ebay.

That's certainly what it looks like.
It'd make a great transporter, but for its speed (or rather lack thereof). As I believe I've pointed out before, the fastest Esagamma variant had a rated max. speed of 70kph (43mph). And, beyond the issue of terminal boredom on a long trip, in the US many freeways have a minimum speed of either 40mph or 45mph, with some actually having a minimum of 50mph.

Just for information, Members of the Lancia Motor Club UK Forum are looking at the feasibility of buying this vehicle as it if isn't sold it might be scrapped, a member has already offered
uncovered parking space for it, and talk at present is around shares at £50 each, a second person is also considering buying it for himself and has sufficient covered storage to take it, but is put off at the moment of a quote of £800 to move it to Ireland, on a low loader transporter.
A third person is arranging to view it on our behalf to see what condition it is in before we commit to buying it, is as none of us have seen the actual vehicle.
Hope it all works out as it would be a shame to loose this Essagamma to the scrapyard/ dismantlers.
The Appia Consortium recently bought their Appia Furgoncino using a shares system.

The big side door and the windows suggest to me a van to transport live animals, like 2/3 horses, typical of a circus or a small stock-farm.
