Hi Everyone,

This is a good looking forum. I am new to this website and wanted to know if anyone knows any information or collectors of the older Appia cars. Mine is a 1959 Appia convertible that needs help. Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hello,
Yes this is a very good forum, however the Appia fans have not found it yet - welcome number 1.
www.viva-lancia.com is the next best thing and has specific categories for most models.

Keep in touch here though !

I'm really happy to have our first Appia owner on board. I'd, personally, love to have an Appia and hope to someday.

As with ANY model Lancia, I'll be happy to set up a forum specific to the Appia for you. You can even be the moderator if you like!

Again, welcome.

Regards,

I owned a 1959 Vignale covertible in the early '70's in San Diego, CA. Just woondering if it's still around. I had to sell it due to moving across the country and still regret it. It left me with a newly rebuilt engine and many, many spares. I remember crying as it was trucked away on a flatbed.

Drop Don Cross an email here in the UK, he runs The Appia Consortium, his email is doncross@lineone.net a lot of Appai owners from around the World belong to the Appai Consortium and is a great source of spares and information, Don also has a number of Appia's in the family.
The first 2 photos & the last 2 were taken at the UK Lancia Motor Club "Lancia 100," held last September at Covent Garden in London, the Berlina in the centre photo was taken at the Lancia Motor Club Stand at the NEC in Birmingham November 2006, the Maroon coloured Berlina belongs to Don.

Dave,

Is it a series 1 or 2 sedan? I could be interested. I've always liked those.

Of course, I'd have to sell one of the other cars to make room first.

Can you find out a little info (especially rust) and maybe post a pic or something?

Thanks,

Hello all!
I am an Appia fan and proud owner of a 3rd series sedan. It is now 98% restored and I have shown it in a few shows here in California. I love the little car, and I have driven it many miles, all without a problem. Great little cars. I sure would like a convertable however!

Looking great, as always. Hopefully the visit to Jaan's was just a social call...

That visit was social and for some minor things. But I have pictures of the engine rebuild he did. Now it runs like a little sowing machine! Very sweet...

Hi new to site but a long time Lancia owner, previous cars include 59 appia vignale, 60 coupe, 66 fuvia coupe and currently 59 appia s2 vignale. All of this started when I purchased the first vignale in a basket, in 1963.

Hi -

Here are some shots of our "family Appia", purchased in 1996 from the estate of the original owner. So we are owner #2. Curiously, it came out of a small garage behind a house, where later were found pictures of it coming home from the dealership to the same garage in 1959!

The story is written up here:

http://web.me.com/geoffreyg/Stories/Appia.html

It remains a solid running car, original and unrestored, and without any rattles. Just a joy to drive and admire. Viva Appia!

Geoff,
Absolutely beautiful! I love just looking at the doors how perfectly aligned and close they are!
Very nice.

A few more shots. Enjoy!

One of the more interesting aspects of the car is the extent to which Lancia "tweaked" production norms. A few examples:

- the rubber mat in the trunk has a very long bit of extension, which would not have been easy to manufacture, and cheaper to have made in two parts, but not Lancia.
- the rubber stops and spacers for the front hood - there are 6 of them, and they are in pairs: there are three unique shapes, for front, middle and back. Amazing.
- the interior door panels are put on without any screws showing.
- the vent windows have small bits of weatherstripping put into slots milled into the aluminum housing.

Simple, but elegant. A new notion of quality. The road we should have all followed.

Geoff,
I read the story on the Appia. Wonderful story. I only wish that my Appia had been treated as well. I restored mine, but what a joy it was. The genies is in is simplicity and superb engineering. It is not over engineered as some cars are today it is just right.
Your description of how it runs and drives is just like mine. Does everything that it needs to do. Just shows that we have gone a bit wrong with some of todays vehicles, so big, complex, expensive to operate...
Great story.

Lovely! I've just found this forum. I have a series 3 berlina - some assembly required. I hope to resume the engine rebuild this winter.
