Hello,
I have recently bought a cracking 1991 Delta HF Turbo and wondered if anyone could help re the following:
1. The turbo boost gauge never goes past the half way mark on the gauge, even if you floor the throttle.... is this normal? The car goes fine and has been well serviced.
2. Does anyone know of a good bodyshop in the Sussex/South Surrey area? There some corrosion creeping in around the windscreen and the rear arches
3. Has anyone attempted a twin headlight conversion? It just looks so much better!
Many thanks for your time!
Mark.

Hello mrmarkyt,
Congratulations of your choice of automobile.
1 - That's about it, halfway is full boost. However under certain conditions the ecu should allow "overboost". Then the orange lamp on the instrument panel will light up and you should see the boost gauge move slightly beyond half way. The overboost lamp should come when the ignition is first put on and the relevant solenoid unit (above the radiator) should clunk in at the same time. Overboost is programmed to work when the pedal is to the metal and revs are above 3k or so but is dependant upon the engine loading so only comes in now and then. Should come in when bombing along, although not usually when in low gears.
2 - I am in Scotland so no advice on bodyshops. However the rear inner wing and turrets are the big weakness so if you plan to keep the car then try to get a proper job done on them. Check in behind the rear seat end bolsters.
3 - The obvious route for round headlamps is easy enough except for the indicator lamps. Same applies for diy conversions using VW scirocco or Lancia Beta units. The front bumber can be cut fairly easily and either integrale indicators or VW golf/scirocco units fitted. I have done this with two HF Turbos but at the end of the day the original headlamps have a better style and better illumination. My current HF Turbo has the standard lamps. Keep it standard, nothing wrong with that. If you want an integrale then start looking for one now!
What colour is your car? The black ones seem to last longest. Does your car have a tilt and slide sunroof or just slide?

just off m25 j8, on the a217 there is a bodyshop called something like 'reigate hill auto repairs'. The owner runs a delta and will be able to help.

Many thanks for your reply! very useful info!
My car is a white one and still looks really super.
It has a sliding sunroof. The car is registered as 1991 but I have a feeling its 1989 as the chassis number is earlier than my 1990 1300 LX!!!!
Thanks again
Mark.

check you are getting full throttle sometimes over the years the throttle pedal gets gradually bent until full throttle can't be achieved a bit if brut force sorts it

did you find it ok? Its pretty tricky to spot - northbound on the a217 just after j8 there is a sign on the left for 4 * 4 tyres, its down that track. Take it easy unless you want to explore the rally heritage of your delta :)
