It's official, I am a complete donkey!

In putting my VX back together I plugged my HRW switch into the wrong connector as the correct one (the one that I marked HRW when I took it out) ended up hidden under the dashboard. I've known for some time that something was wrong but it was only today that I managed to track down the fault. The really embarrassing thing is that I even extended the wires on the incorrect plug when I did my boost gauge re-shuffle over the week-end.

Anyway, the point of all this is that I now have a connector with 5 wires (black, yellow, red, grey and green) that looks like a switch is supposed to plug into it on the right of the heat/vent controls and I have no idea what it is for. Maybe it is not used because some of the wires go to another connecter that has nothing plugged in. However, if you do plug the HRW switch into the said connector and turn on the switch it blows fuse 12 in an instant and take out the indicators with it. Not a great trick if you happen to be on the road at the time - someone came flying past me as I was preparing to turn right. Any suggestions about the myterious connector please? What switches do you VX guys have to the right of the heater controls?

Hello Pope1,
The other connector sounds like the one for the rear wash wipe on an HPE. When I saw your boost gauge installation it took a few seconds for me to realise that of course the Coupe does not have that switch. (HPEs only have one blank switch position so fitting the boost gauge in the switch panel would be a bit more challenging).

Presumably the wiring loom is "standardised" so the connector has been lurking all the time waiting for you to find it!

That sounds highly likely. Many thanks Leo. I actually have a spare loom from another coupe' that I stripped for parts and I had to lay out the spare one on the garage floor to see what was going on. I was very perplexed to find the same thing on the spare loom including the second connector that didn't go anywhere. Now I understand why.

By the way, if I was doing the boost gauge installation on an HPE, I'd move the hazard warning switch somewhere else and just have the rear wash wipe and HRW on the dash.

With a bit of wiring extension the hazard could make it down to the cigarette lighter with the fog light switch and still look 'right'
