View Full Version : What's it worth?

Folks,
As many know, 'she who must be obeyed' has banned me from Betas for the forseeable future....... and I though all Lancias.
But the other day we were out shopping and happened to pass a local garage selling a 1991 Delta HF Turbo in full Martini livery with less than 43K miles on the clock and 2 owners (presumably an IE and not a carb job, I haven't looked the mechanics of it yet). A couple of really minor/small rust spots on the body but other than that it's a minter.
Deltas aren't really my thing but it's tempting - really tempting - and more importantly 'her indoors' quite likes it as it's "different" and comes with my assurance of being 'quite rapid'.
So what's it worth???
The price on the windscreen is a lot - to my mind - for an HF Turbo (low 8V Integrale range), but is it worth it?
Feedback appreciated on this one, it could see me 'back in habit'.

Junkies don't usually ask what it's worth! They always figure out a way to get it or die trying. :P

We never got 'em, so I don't know what FMV is on them. But in the land of undervalued Italian fun, I always say it's worth what you're willing to pay. And as they say in sales, can't have the world if you don't ask! :D

If it's any use a guy over here has one for sale and is looking for £4,500. It has a rusty door bottom and some wear inside. At the end of the day it's an HF with stickers. Sticker set costs approx £200.
In my own opinion I wouldn't pay anymore te £2,700 but it would need to be very clean and correct.
8V Grale's can be got at this price don't forget.

Excellent car though for a 1600. :D

Hmm. wait till its sat on the forecourt for 2 weeks (any longer and itll just be our hateful rust heap!) with people being scared of the badge then go in and offer to take it off his hands for £2.50

Chris,
Ahhh yes, most amusing :!:
It's been there for more than a few months apparently, the price in the window is £3,450 which made my eyes fairly pop out of their sockets.
An Integrale would be nice, but impractical as the wife couldn't cope with the LHD.
After driving in Rhodes for a fortnight I kinda got used to it - even met a couple of guys with Integrales/Kappas etc when I was out there. And yes, I did find a Beta (note: a Beta) when I was out there but I was banned from scrapyarding.
Interestingly (to me anyway :!:) was the fact the Beta was completely and utterly rotten wheras every Delta was mint - odd that. Perhaps that's why 'her indoors' kind of likes it :?:

If its in full rally Martini decals then that is a bit more than £ 200.

If its just the road Martini edition then that is roughly £ 200 for the stickers.

So many of these cars have been used and abused, so these cars fetch very little money. Good ones do seem to be advertised at high prices.

Rust problems are usually around the windscreen aperture, the rear edge of the roof and the tailgate. You can get rust starting from stonechips on the front doors.

A 1991 one would be a fuel injected one.

A had a 1988 one for a year or two and it was a hoot. Reliable, fast and comfortable.

If the garage took it in part exchange, then they would have bought it for a pretty low figure.

Well if its been there a couple of months and the owner is serious about selling it, they should be ready to face the real market value of these cars...

Its kind of worrying what people will accept compared to their asking price - when I was marcos hunting (now abandoned as i couldnt afford a proper fast one in good order), I looked at one car advertised at £9.5k. After a bit of conversation with the dealer he told me he had the authority to accept £6.5k!

Just had a quick look in my Lancia Club magazine (Aug 2004). There are two in there:

A 1988 one for 650 pounds.
A 1989 one (116K miles) for 1795 pounds.

That price sounds a little steep even with the low mileage etc. Why not do a little more research, decide what you're prepared to pay and then make an offer and see what happens? Chances are they will end up accepting your offer unless they can sell it through the club to another enthusiast.

Hello Hamish,
This sounds like the car that Bob Adamason has/had. 'Phone Bob to check the situation. Also he could give an idea on price/value.

IMHO if the car is sound (ie the rear turrets are sound) then it is probably worth about 1100 to 1500 Scottish Pounds.

Go for it!!!

Cheers guys,
Interesting stuff. Leo - I'm not sure it is Robbies (he does still have his 'baby') or one that he's sold recently but I will be checking in with him sometime soon..... but have this sick VX to try and fix again over the next two days  because it's been due at Robbies for spraying for a while and neither I or the local garage have had the time to finish the work for a couple of months
I'm going to try and pop in and see these guys at the other garage and see what they're wanting in hard cash - maybe they'll take my damn Renault in part exchange :?:
Here's hoping  :!: :!:
