Has anyone any experience with the Idle stop solenoid on a VX? The guys at my garage are zeroing in on it as part of a process to work out why my car floods under engine braking and low revs. They used to work for the Lancia dealers and remember a service bulletin some years ago about a fault with this solenoid. Apparently this thing supposedly shuts off the fuel to the carb under engine braking and they think it isn't working properly.
Anyone else come across this, or have bypassed it althogether?

Don't think I have one on my car but I also have a DCNF carb in place of the standard carb and all the carb plumbing stuff has been removed. Here's how mine seems to be configured:
There are two fuel lines, one is the fuel feed and I assume that the other is the return to the tank. They come into the engine comparment and are joined together by a "Y" shaped tube. The output from that goes to what looks like a non-return valve, then to an adjustable fuel pressure regulator, then to a small inline filter and from there into the carb. When either the regulator or the float operated valve in the carb close, fuel is forced to go back down the return tube into the tank. Hence no flooding and no solenoid valve.
Sorry for the vagueness in my description. I didn't fit the bits myself and have never had any problems with it as it's all very simple and reliable kit.

Grundo- The solenoid is simply to shut off idle fuel when the ignition is turned off. This is to prevent run-on. There are three things that usually cause flooding under engine braking; too large idle jets, float level too high or not closing, fuel pressure too high. Try to eliminate these causes before blaming the solenoid, as its simple purpose is highly unlikely to cause your problem.

Very similar problem on my vx was caused by a ripped diaphragm in the carb.
