Hello chaps
I have a dedra turbo 1991, no cat, same engine I believe as the Delta Integrale 8v.
The car has just failed its MOT on high Co2, does anyone know how to get this down ? The car has been standing a while, but appears in otherwise good order. Maybe an Italian tune up was required ?
Also how tuneable is this car ? I was hoping for 200bhp, what would be involved and the cost.

I don't (!)
Try asking on http://forums.delphiforums.com/evoforum
They're a lot more clued up aboput Deltas, Int's etc

I haven't been able to access that forum at delphi for sometime now, just tried and no joy. Are you able to access it ?

Do you have a firewall on your PC? If so try disabling it, could be this stopping you getting on that site. I just tried it and its fine.

Yep....that done it, wonder what delphi has against my firewall ! Cheers.

The Delphi site probably needs to have cookies enabled and you firewall may be rejecting them. Trying configuring the firewall to allow that site to save permanent cookies on your machine. Sorry I know that's totally off-topic but it may help in future.

Hello,
The standard trick for MOt is to remove the air filter, that will (slightly make the mixture weaker (ie more air to petrol). Also on the the ecu there is a CO2 adjustment - I would reccomend that you leave that alone, but if desperate you could try turning it slightly (not sure which direction) by inserting a small flat screwdriver in the hole at the "top" end of the ecu connector. Great caution is required to 1) avoid damaging the adjuster and 2) setting the adjustment incorrectly and wrecking the engine!
In terms of tuning the engine - you will quickly find that any serious increase in power will need 4 wheel drive to get the power down, so the sensible thing is to be happy with what you have - if you want more buy a Delta (or a Subaru!).

Or knocking down the fuel pressure a smidge ?? I think the fuel rail regulator is adjustable - but wouldn't like to say if this a good idea !

the fuel pressure reg can be adjusted however without all the proper kit to test the mixture I'd be wary of tweaking it much. from my experience I would suspect incorrect valve clearances and/or worn valve guides

Thanks for all replies, an Italian tune and a turn of that screw on ECU maybe the trick.
The engine should be all good, it has all new valves, all belts, sparks and gaskets as well as a full service only 3k ago.

Got the MOT, after a 20 minute run with extensive use of the higher rev range. The tester was stunned it came down so much, from 7+ to 2.3 ppm. Cheers all.

Glad you got it sorted. Just make sure your mixture is not too weak as a result of the adjustments.

How does the dedra turbo compare to the vx in terms of power? I passed a dedra turbo in my vx once like it was asleep, but not sure if they were bimbling or not.

The Dedra Turbo is er......very lively, the overboost cut in is manic :) Much faster than the vx (mind you I haven't driven my vx for a year, its in pieces !) not much turbo lag to speak of either, unlike many of my previous turbo cars. It is a shame but the ultimate intention is to use this as a donor for my vx, it should eventually yield its engine, gearbox, ecu etc the vx supercharger will then be added in addition to the turbo. This should give interesting performance ! I know this is hard conversion, but such is life ! The Dedra fans out there won't like it, I know, but the Dedra would need extensive and very expensive work to actually keep it alive longer than a year.
I didn't make any ECU or other adjustments, just gave it a high rev drive the Co2 levels dropped accordingly.

Ever since The Delta S4 successfully used a turbo and a supercharger, this mod has been within the bounds of possibility yet relatively few have tried. There's a supercharged Golf Turbo in te final stages of development at the moment and the thing sounds quite amazing.
I'm quite interested to know how you plan to pull this one off Michael. It must be a lot easier doing it with fuel injection than with the standard VX carb setup but at there same time you don't have a lot of room to play with and there's always the question of how you measure the air flow into the engine among other such details. Care to share any thoughts at this stage?

Can't really share any thoughts on this, my friend and mechanic Lloyd will be doing the conversion, he has worked extensively with Alfas, but also has Lancia expertise. It was my initial thought to add the engine + supercharger and - turbo, he simply said why not just add the charger like the S4. He has looked at both and can see the obvious difficulties, but he does not seem to think, initially anyway, that it is excessively difficult.
We will see in about 6 months or so, when the Vx has been welded and sprayed he'll have both to work on.

Good morning,
Very interesting project with SC and turbo.
It was an article from the Swedish magazine Bilsport obout a guy building this combination. All design and engineering done by himself.
He is racing an old Opel Manta type 1
Think it's a lot of mechanical work. Problems like getting the pressurised air back the wrong way into the SC.
I have a Dedra Integrale I am planning to modify something like this. Or sell the car... don't know what do do. Maybe spend time and effort on the VX.
But anyway...if you can read or translate this article (swedish) it's interesting reading. think it must have been august or september issue
