Hi everybody,

Just putting this out there in case somebody knows somebody who's knows somebody who happens to have Fulvia :D

Im looking for a mechanically good/average Fulvia series 2,
not too worried about body work but would prefer a mechanically sound runner if pos.

Any ideas gimi a bell,
Thanks!

Coupe or Sport? and what is your budget? I think you would be better look for better bodywork than mechanicals.

European Classic Cars in Avebury have a mechanically sound, cosmetically challenged one with little rust but imperfect paint. It's an S3, though, so might not be what you want. The orange cloth seats and green carpet might be a snag, for example. I think it was part-exchanged for the restored Zagato rolling shell they have just sold.

PS - lots for sale in Italy and Germany. See www.automobile.it, but be prepared for paperwork annoyance if buying from Italy. It's easier than it used to be, however. One advantage of buying from mainland Europe is that you get the nicer low-headlight front. LHD really isn't a problem in a car as narrow and airy as a Fulvia coupé.

Heya,

Yeah, im not too fussed about the Sport or Coupe, preferably Sport but im easy :)

And i reckon budget would probably be maxed at abour £4k?
Hence why im looking for a not too amazing one, hehe

As far as the S3 at Avebury I had actually asked them about that but its been 'reserved' apparently, but that was a very nice looking car!

Thanks for the advice about looking Europewide, i'll have a gander, just its a long way to go to have a look at one :) but i do personally quite like the raised/bulged headlights but i guess its just a matter of opinion.

Thanks for the help, any further advice would be greatly appreciated!

Just seen this. RHD and low-light, which most likely means it was new in South Africa, Cyprus or British Forces in Germany. Might suit.

Hi Nick
, Two questions, where are you based? does it have to be a Series 2 ( looking for a Historic Tax free?) or will a series 3 do? as there isn't a lot of difference if the historic status doesn't matter.
If your a Lancia Motor Club Member, in the Classifieds there is a series 3 for sale by Garry Peck-Cooper for £2495.00 ono, I looked at it recently for someone, but he didn't want to have to do any work.
Garry's one has a leather interior and needs a bit of TLC, the main problem is the boot lid that needs replacing and some paintwork, it's a gold colour and the paint is original with much of it in good condition, it drives nice, and is perfectly usable as is. but I reckon if you wanted someone to do the cosmetics for you, it would cost about £1K to get it up to a nice standard.
you can get Garry on 01438 833116 or 07858 787552.
Garry also owns a lovely Series 2 that he recently restored , but he won't sell that, I know because I tried!
He's based about 3 miles from Luton Airport.

I've just spent about 1/2 hour to see if I could find the photos I took of the gold series 3, but unfortunately I can't find them on my PC, but here's the photo of his series 2 that you CAN'T Buy!

Heya,

Thanks for the help so far everyone, i really didnt expect so much support :)
And im not too fussy whether it is S2 or 3, i presume the 3 is easier to get parts for (slightly) and im based in Lancashire / Scotland (i travel between the two) but am quite willing to look 'down south' because most Fulvia's seem to be down that way.

Thanks for looking for the photos, i'll give Garry a ring later.

Thanks again
Nick

Mechanically there is no real difference in availability parts wise S2-v-S3 the interior seems harder to find (seats) and instruments but there is not much in it.

ahh,
thanks for clearing that up philm,
I know the series 1's are more 'pure' before Fiat took over but i think parts availability is quite important these days so a 2 or 3 would be more useful for me :)
Thanks

Given the choice I would aim for an S2. IMO the interiors are nicer and the S3 (a bit of a misnomer like the S1.5 cars, but nevertheless a useful distinction as we know what we mean) used horrible cheap nuts and bolts so can be a pain to work on.

Availability of spares is relative - all Fulvia spares are rare compared to something like an Alfa or a Morris Minor, but pretty much everything you will need for any series is available from the usual suspects. Leaving aside the body panels, only the brakes present any real problem for the S1 owner, and then only because they can corrode internally and often require sleeving.

If you are looking for something mechanically good, but cosmetically challenged make sure the subframe legs and pick up boxes are in reasonable nick or you will have to spend £1000 on getting them done to make it drivable.
