Hello,
Just registered.... but been here as guest a lot. Very good forum! interesting reading.
Owned Beta's since 1985 but bought a VX coupe -84 this spring. In Norway it's only a few VX, maybe 5 coupe and hpe
Just wondering about oil consumption of the blower. Any ideas? what's normal?
Best regards
Tore

None
My spider volumex car gets between 3k to 5k km per season and usually a single fill per season does it.
I don't recall it ever noticably low. I just refill in sprng and check regularly for precaution.

Thanks,
Are you talking about engine oil? no...
I think my car use at least refill every 1000 km
Think this is too much for the SC.
Any suggestions what could be wrong?
Can't see any leaks
Engine has no consumtion with Mobil 1 oil

Tore,
How much oil do you have to put in every 1000Km? What sort of oil are you using? Where do you fill up to on the plastic reservoir?
I think the level goes down rapidly if you put too much in. I assume the excess gets burnt in the engine but I'm not sure.
Are you familiar with this site (http://www.guy-croft.com/page15.html)?

Hi Tore,
Not sure what's normal for other VX's, but mine has used close to 1 litre of ZC90 in 8400km. Since the supercharger takes about 200ml of oil, that's a complete fill every 1680km for me, and that's not driving like a granny
I haven't noticed any oil leaking under the supercharger so I assume it leaks into it through worn seals?

I have to agree with Colin, never had a blower use as much oil as Tore is describing so I'm inclined to think there might be a seal 'issue' :(
Fair comment, after a 'thrash' up to my folks - about 200 miles from me over fun roads - my old VX used a bit of blower oil, but not much. If my memory serves the Lancia handbook says check daily :!:
Tore - How much smoke is coming out of the exhaust :?:

Hi folks,
Sorry for late response....
Hamish - No smoke coming out of the exhaust.
And I am not driving like "a granny" either. The car is made for driving...
Not any track days yet but will be next year
I check the oil level at least every week ( the car is not an everday car)
Maybe I will check the consumtion after I reduce the level a bit like Chris is mentioning...
I might also change type of oil but think I must do one thing at the time.
The VX will soon be garaged for this season (winter!!!) but I have quite a lot of work to do...like fitting new bushings from Beta Boyz, some rust :(
Making new inner mdf doorpanels..
Tore
Maybe also som enginework.... I will keep on reading this forum for new ideas

Tore,
I'm not suggesting that you run with the oil at a lower level than specified. I was just wondering whether you might have filled it above the specified level that's all.

Hi Tore,
I haven't seen any smoke from my exhaust either. I have noticed it using more oil if I drive it particularly hard.
I also wonder if using engine oil has an effect on consumption since it's not designed for the higher temperature of the supercharger.
When I bought my VX, I checked the SC oil level, it was quite low but not empty. The previous owner told me it used a bit of oil.
After owning the car for a few days, I rang the previous owner to ask him where he got the ZC90 from, he didn't know what I was talking about and told me he was using engine oil! I wasn't happy with this so drained it and filled it with ZC90.
But it still uses oil, so my only conclusion is it must be leaking somewhere.
I check the level every time I drive, and usually top it to the line on the middle of the reservoir if it's down a bit.
Colin
