Hi, i wonder if anyone can help? My 1971 Flavia coupe doesn't have a radio and I would like to know what make/type of radio it would have had and if it (or something similar) can be sourced
thanks
Peter

I'd bet it would have had a Becker Europa, or maybe a Blaupunkt Frankfurt; either one can be found on eBay or from classic car radio specialists

Radio equipment was not generally offered "at the factory" and was fitted on request by the supplying dealer therefore either what was locally available, or, if the customer was prepared to wait, their choice.

So in Italy you see mainly Voxon, in the UK mainly Radiomobile or Motorola etc. For the well healed Becker or Blaupunkt were a popoular period choice.

The best place to look is either ebay in the respective "home countries" or the established dealers:

Completely forgot about Voxson; that would certainly have been a real possibility for Italian or even Swiss delivery. A friend's Swiss-delivery Flavia Coupé retains its original Voxson.

Personally, I'd lean toward the Becker. At the time it was a fairly ubiquitous high-end choice, and therefore IMO it will always appear correct in a Flavia, which was itself a rather expensive car.

But, as Neil correctly points out, a radio was typically a dealer-installed option, so you can't really go wrong with any respectable period-correct unit.

Ahhh radio history. Beckers were literally the Mercedes of
radios back when. Oft fitted to 190, 280 & 300 series. Porsches
mostly w/Blaupunkt models. Both brands VERY expensive in
the day. $400 for a hi-end Becker comes to mind. I think they
even had a model w/a shortwave band! I recall Blaupunkt being
the only manufacturer who made dash kits specifically for Betas.
Kits that provided a factory appearance accepting just their units.
And the only one who made speakers that'd fit Betas w/o fuss.
