...just saw this beautiful piece this AM. I thought some Flaminia enthusiast on the board would enjoy seeing these pics. It's completely rebuilt and ready to install. Other than the repaired exhaust manifold and some wear marks, it looks pretty much like it just came off the line in Torino.

It really is a beautiful engine. I love the finned sump to help oil cooling.
I just pulled my 2.5 out today and I can say that it is very well thought out design.
Once you have disconnected the cooling system, the exhaust and the prop shaft, the
motor lifts straight up and out. You can see in the pictures the 4 "posts" that the
engine is bolted to the sub frame with. 4 long bolts is all that holds the engine in.
The transaxle is equally beautiful to behold.
I'm curious what is going on with the distributor. They have tried to adapt something else.
Maybe electronic?
The original dist.cap is probably the hardest thing to find for a Flaminia....or should I say most expensive.

Hi Todd,

The distributor has been replaced with a Scintilla Magneto which is made in Switzerland.

Scintilla is perhaps best known amongst vintage auto racers, 'hot rodders' and for the magnetos they produced for aircraft engines in WWII.

Scintilla (part of the Bendix Aviation Corp.) had a factory in Sidney, NY. USA as well.

Just stunning. Thanks for posting those. I kinda prefer the valve covers all crackle instead of with polished lettering. But that's a quibble.

I used a 1961 Flaminia 2.5 GT Touring Coupe 3C as my daily driver for about 4 years back in the 1980's. These pix sure bring back memories.

I also owned a Flaminia Pininfarina Coupe and a Flaminia Sedan (along with a bunch of Fulvias and Flavias).

A collegue down here is also rebuilding a Flaminia GT and had a problem with finding a distributor cap also. After some investigation he found that a cap and rotor from a mid 90's Nissan V6 is almost a perfect fit, with a couple of small mods!
It's amazing what you can find if you look around.
