View Full Version : Beta front brake lines - difference/suppliers?

So I'm trying to get some of the hydraulics solid on my car, and am seeing vendors only have one front line or the other, which leads to my question:
Looking on IAP's site, the inner lines (http://www.international-auto.com/index.cfm?fa=p&pid=2628&posid=956197&noapp=1) and outer lines (http://www.international-auto.com/index.cfm?fa=p&pid=2628&posid=956188&noapp=1) do not seem to be any different, aside from those little plastic clips that hold the wear indicator wire. Mine is long-disconnected anyway, so I don't care about that. Do any of you know if it matters which one I get?
Also, if you've had any luck getting front & rear lines from one place or another, I'd appreciate the pointer. I see needforspeed over the UK is reasonably well-liked, but I'd rather go rubber since you can see the hose condition, and I'd prefer cheaper domestic shipping if I can have it.

From Australia, I have recently overhauled the complete breaking system on my 1980 Zagato Spider. I do not think that it matters if one of the two front hoses on each wheel are the same length. Reason being that you have to hold them secure by the plate on the back of the shock absorber. Rubber is quite a lot cheaper than a steel mesh cover line. Be aware of the angle on the hoses as the point where they fit onto the break cylinder if not correct then it is all but impossible to refit.

Well, I have ordered two sets from Need For Speed, with shipping included, the last set a couple years ago was $141 for all hoses needed for a complete job and they came in 4 days!, much, "MUCH!" better than you will get trying to find old NOS ones, plus the rubber in them is new and of better more modern quality and specs and the stainless wrap makes them not only last longer due to the abrasion and weather protection, but increases the braking of your car to boot. If your car is still one the originals now, do you really think you'll own it long enough to be concerned aboput watching the hoses? <grin>
The shipping from the UK is sometimes cheaper than getting things from the opposite coasts from which you live in the US. I always thought the shipping was almost shockingly low, but to each his own.
What sold me was when I had to send the last "NOS" set I got from a vendor back due to they were cracking up almost as bad as the ones I was trying to replace from dry rotting on the shelf. Just two of those hoses ran me $90 from the US vendor!
That said, again, a local hydraulic shop, take in your old ones to them so they can re-use the end fittings, that way you will be getting recently and better quality rubber lines.
But custom made that way may or may not be more expensive again than Need for Speed and shipping from the UK, use PayPal and they do all the money exchange rate stuff for you, converting it so you know how much in US cash it really is and all, or you can call Need for Speed direct and order over the phone with a credit card.......did that once, nice folks!

Those IAP ones look pretty nice........if they actually have them, they advertise a lot for Betas they haven't carried in 20 years! REALLY! LOL
I think there is a difference in the locator pin for the caliper connection fitting if memory serves.
Yup, never had one of those brake warning crap wire thru the brake pad system things work right myself and that was always one of the first things to be ripped out when I would buy one, mainly becaue I always work on the brake system first when I buy a new-old car, like my daddy always said: "Won't matter after your first drive how fast ya make it boy if it don't stop" refering to the safety/death side of things of course <wink>
