So, I'm resurrecting my black n gold 79 Zag (automatic, power windows and all that stuff) and I'm having two issues. First, one of my relays appears to be "on" all the time. If I remove the negative cable from my battery, as soon as I hook it back up, one of my relays clicks. About 15 minutes later my battery has been drained. From left to right (passenger to driver side) it's the 4th relay. I've already tried switching relays and no matter which one I put in there, something happening at that socket makes it click. My plastic cover for the fuse box cracked and fell apart years ago, so what is that relay supposed to do? BTW, after removing that relay and hooking the battery up, the battery keeps its charge.
While trying to figure out this mystery I noticed that there are two little black plug in thingies underneath the relays. What do they do? One of them (the one on the right) is gone. I have no idea how long it's been gone. Electrical problems started MANY years ago and I've had the car at two different shops over the past few months (besides my years of playing part time mechanic) so it could have disappeared anywhere.
I've got the haynes manual, the regular manual that came with the car and the wiring diagram but I can't find any info on this.
Looking over this site, seems like there's some serious knowledge out there. And please don't tell me that my 79 sucks... lol... If I wanted transportation that was 100% reliable I'd just take the friggin' bus. :D
