Flavia engine build

Im joe, im pretty new on this forum.

Dad and i have acquired a 63 flavia coupe which is in need of a bit of TLC The body is in good nick but the engine however had a blown head gasket and a bit of rod knock, we have decided to tear the engine down and overhaul it completely and properly.

Does anyone know where i can get parts such as gasket kits and pistons and liners from?

Im in Sydney Australia.

I guess that it's a Flavia 1800 coupe? Lovely car! Pretty good to work on too. The Flavia engine is a work of art - have a close look at the rocker gear and pushrods - elegant engineering.

Anyway, Lambda Motors in Mittagong will be able to help with some parts, or can get them. Omicron in the UK is always worth a try too. I think that piston & sleeve kits are rocking horse material - possible option there is bored/honed sleeves and locally made pistons/rings.

Don't forget to join the Lancia Club! Sydney members are pretty active.

ill give them a try.

Ive pulled the rods out and the bearings are stuffed with the journals needing a regrind, i will split the block tomorrow.

found 2 scored pistons and 1 broken ring and the front 2 barrels are worn on the bottom.

Any idea on what piston brand to use? im thinking send the lot to the machine shop and let them sort it out, FWIW they are the B class flat top pistons.

Works of art indeed especially the radiator drain tap , im used to alfa 105 and 116 series cars so this is very different yet simple at the same time.

well the engine is fully stripped, liners out the lot and soaking in the cold tank.

will need a re-bore and new pistons and rings , the cam bearings look ok, valve guides need to be replaced or reamed OS, the thrust bearing is shagged but the main crank bearing journals are ok, rod journals need to go 1 OS

have plenty of picks will put them up when im done

Oh and engraved in the rear bell housing was VITTORIO, obviously the Lancia worker who built it in "63"

Thanks for those links , the italian websties are soooo frustrating. they never seem to work properly.

if worse come to worse ill make the gaskets myself, i already have 2 headgaskets and as for pistons, they are the flat top mondial ones ,im sure my machinist can source oversize ones, as ours are pretty badly scuffed.

I think the piston/liner issue is solved, we sourced a set from a local supplier yet may still have to obtain a full gasket set from overseas

James from Canberra here. I just picked up a 63 Pininfarina coupe from Sydney - same as yours! We need to rebuild the motor also. It is in pieces. Did you get the pistons and liners from Lamda Motors? I will possibly need the liners at least depending on how good (or bad) ours are. My car has been off the road for years.

It'd be good to have a chat with you. Feel free to PM a phone number if you are interested. We bought two cars (a sedan and the coupe) and a ton of parts (mosty sedan). I'll be chasing a bunch of coupe bits shortly. Hearing where you have been getting bits from would be helpful.
