Nothing at all profound, I'm afraid. But I'm emboldened by having recently read Matthew Crawford's "Shop Class as Soulcraft", which includes some discussion of repair and trouble shooting, to weigh in anyway.

If disconnecting the rev limiter made the misfire go away, are the rev limiter switches as they should be? I remember there being two sets, one for the low limit and one for high. Does a re-zero and re-set of these change things? I think you can adjust the limit screws while the motor is running; if you lower the rev limits, does the limiter appear to be working properly?

Are there any other symptoms that may indicate a faulty MSD (eg. is the tachometer functioning properly?)?

I also know from direct experience with an MSD that it likes a strong ground and doesn't like low voltages, and that it will protest under both conditions by misfiring, but I can't see how either of those causes would go away when you disconnect the blue and/or grey wires.

Apologies in advance for mentioning things you've already looked at. And good luck!

Thanks Shaun

Yes I had thought about earthing - will put on a new strap between bell housing and chassis.

The Rev counter was calibrated before installation in 2007.

The MSD6AL has plug in rev limits - like a fuse/circuit breaker connector. Mine had 7000 rpm plugged in.

Thanks for your thoughts.
